Puppies!!

Chloe caught us off-guard and had her puppies on Monday, Aug. 10th. We weren't expecting them until midweek.

But that's okay!
She started to show signs of labor at 2:00 am Monday, and two puppies were born at 1:50 pm and 2:00 pm. Then Chloe's labor stalled, while a 3rd pup was still inside. After two hours I started calling the vet, who was out of town, got advice from the receptionist (bad idea), then called our old vet who is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive (hence the reason for switching). $250 later we confirmed by x-ray there was a 3rd pup still in there. He gave her an Oxytocin shot to get labor started again, and sent us home with another shot to give to her around 9:30 pm, which we had to do because there was no pup at that time. If the shots didn't work, the only other option is c-section which is WAY way expensive, and there would be no way we could do that!! So... with a great deal riding on getting that puppy out, I spent another night of no sleep as I waited for the shot to do it's work, and hopefully help resuscitate the pup when it's born, after enduring the stalled labor. Poor Chloe had contractions all night and all morning today (Tuesday) and puppy 3 finally came out at 2:00 pm. I worked with the puppy for about an hour trying to get it to breathe, but it was no use. BUT... I am glad that Chloe will be alright now, and that we have two beautiful puppies. I will post more picture later.

A MIRACLE...

Literally... I just have to share this with you. Added to the stress of the 3rd pup being stuck, Puppy #1 started having problems too. I noticed he was making gurgling sounds when he was nursing, and I picked him up, and he had milk coming out of his nose. Two definite signs of a cleft palate, which is fatal for a puppy. We were all really sad, especially Hannah. She said many prayers that night (we all did), and GUESS WHAT!!?? The puppy has absolutely no signs of gurgling or milk coming out of the nose today.

Prayer DOES work!

I've never had a dog have puppies--maybe it's a good thing because that whole experience would have scared me to death! The puppies are so cute!
